HHTRC Volunteers
Helping Hands is a typical not-for-profit organization which
depends on its volunteers to carry out the mission of the program.
We depend almost exclusively on volunteers so that funds donated go
directly to support programs that help people with special needs.
Essential to our Success - The services provided by volunteers
are essential to the success of all our endeavors. Often three
individuals will be needed to assist a riding instructor with a lesson.
A leader will walk in front guiding the horse, while side walkers will be
stationed on either side to ensure the safety of the rider with
disabilities. Many clients also need the help of several
volunteers simply to mount a horse from the ramp.
Care of the Horses - Horses also need attention and care.
They must be fed, groomed, and exercised regularly, and volunteers help
with such activities. In fact Helping Hands volunteers are given
extensive training in equine related matters, from mucking stalls to
helping our NARHA certified instructors.
Behind the Scenes - While the mission of Helping Hands is to
provide therapeutic riding and hippotherapy to those with special needs,
much essential work is performed behind the scenes by the volunteer
force. Answering the phone, preparing mailing lists, helping
organize special events, fundraising, all fall within the purview of
volunteers. Our volunteer organization is currently 60 strong and
growing rapidly.
