The horse generates over 1500 three-dimensional rotations in
1/2 hour. This cannot be duplicated in a clinical setting with any type
modality. It moves the rider gently and rhythmically in a manner similar
to a human gait. Riders with physical disabilities often show improvement
in flexibility, balance, strength, gross and fine motor skills and stride
length.
With input from the rider's parents, physician and
therapists, our staff set specific goals for each rider at the start of the 10
week session. Therapy and class plans are designed weekly to help the
client work toward goals.
Clients who have been served by both therapeutic horseback
riding and hippotherapy are autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, emotional
disabilities, hearing and visual impairments, learning disabilities, mental
retardation, post-polio, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, strokes, spina
bifida and cerebral palsy.
The Therapeutic Riding program is scheduled all year round.
Each students comes once a week for either a one-hour lesson
with a group of two - four riders in therapeutic riding or a one on one therapy
session in hippotherapy.
-

$200. ($20.00 per lesson). Private lessons are $50.00 per hour or $25.00 per
half hour.

$45.00 per half hour or $90.00 an hour. Physical Therapy is $55.00 per

each calendar year in March or before a new rider's initial evaluation.

HHTRC office for a registration packet and scholarship application.
-
The full fee for the Semester is payable before the

-
Fees charged represent only a fraction of the actual cost
of a lesson. We are working to keep our classes affordable to all. The
HHTRC Board of Directors raises over 25% of the actual cost of each
lesson/therapy session.
Classes are cancelled only if roads are unsafe for travel,
thunderstorms or tornado activity, or school cancellations. Instructors
and Therapists offer safe, unmounted curriculum if weather prevents riding. In
the case of cancellation the phone message at the Center will indicate
information and it is also published on the front page of this website.
